Japanese lifestyle brand A Bathing Ape diversify their offering for Spring Summer 11 with the introduction of premium suiting line ’Mr. BATHING APE®’. Exclusively at Mr Porter and PRESENT from February 2011
Inspired by founder Nigo’s love of fine tailoring and his time spent with some of the world’s finest tailors on Savile Row (including Huntsman and Anderson & Sheppard), the debut range is a tight capsule collection of suits, shirts, ties, and shoes made to the highest design and production standards, providing a top-to-toe look for the discerning stylish gent. The range embodies two key looks – British classic, and American classic – with all items showing a distinct influence of one or the other.
Suits come as a grey American style two-piece pinstripe, or a British style navy pinstripe three-piece option complete with waistcoat featuring a contrast jacquard camo back that gives a distinct nod to the brand’s heritage. A black and white gingham style carries an air of the English Dandy, while a fully canvassed navy ‘English’ blazer with signature gold buttons salutes the nautical and features a jacquard camo lining to add a unique and visually arresting design twist.
Shirting is kept classic, with a choice of Oxford button down, broadcloth, or checked; each shirt style features the signature Mr Bathing Ape moustache logo subtly embroidered on the chest. Three tie styles are offered – a full colour camo, a club tie, and a self colour camo – all made from the finest silk.
For an off duty look, items from the range can be teamed with an exclusive pair of dark denim ‘Warehouse’ collaboration jeans. Warehouse is widely regarded as the best quality repro denim in the world, and the collaboration ensures the denim offering is of the same utmost standards as the rest of the range. The jeans eminate a vintage Ivy League aesthetic, with a 1940’s cut, a wide straight leg fit, and buttons for braces on the waist.
To complete the look, gentlemen can choose from dark brown American brogues or black and white Penny Loafers. The brogues are made by Regal – the oldest, highest quality Japanese benchmade shoe available – and feature brogueing in the shape of the iconic Bapestar. The monochrome penny loafers have a beef roll, while the classic penny slot at the front is wittily adapted in to a contrast moustache logo cut out.
