American Apothecary is an avant grade T-shirt company. Their T-shirts feature medicinal remedies that were discontinued, and are now illegal because they featured very dangerous active ingredients. For example heroin, cigarettes, and even cocaine, were not always illegal substances. In the early 1900's Cocaine was put in toothache drops given to children and Cigarettes were given to asthma patients for relief of their symptoms. By putting these vintage medicine labels on high grade cotton T-shirts, American Apothecary is showing how our perception of these at one time legal taboos substances has evolved over the last century. American Apothecary's object is to supply clothing with a purpose; and their purpose is to urge their consumers and the public to take a closer look at what they are being prescribed to put into their bodies. It's great looking clothing with a purpose, that makes a statement. What else could you ask for?
